Written by Bored Panda

Dreaming is one of the most mysterious and interesting experiences in our lives. During the Roman Era, some dreams were even submitted to the Roman Senate for analysis and dream interpretation. They were thought to be messages from the gods. Dream interpreters even accompanied military leaders into battles and campaigns! In addition to this, it is also known, that many artists have received their creative ideas from their dreams. But what do we actually know about dreams? Here are 13 interesting facts about dreams โ€“ enjoy, and whatโ€™s most important, donโ€™t forget to share your dream stories in the comment section!

1. You Forget 90% of Your Dreams

Within 5 minutes of waking, half of your dream is forgotten. Within 10, 90% is gone.

2. Blind People also Dream

People who became blind after birth can see images in their dreams. People who are born blind do not see any images, but have dreams equally vivid involving their other senses of sound, smell, touch and emotion.

3. Everybody Dreams

Every human being dreams (except in cases of extreme psychological disorder). If you think, you are not dreaming, you just forget your dreams.

4. In Our Dreams We Only See Faces, That We already Know

Our mind is not inventing faces โ€“ in our dreams we see real faces of real people that we have seen during our life but may not know or remember. We have all seen hundreds of thousands of faces throughout our lives, so we have an endless supply of characters for our brain to utilize during our dreams.

5. Not Everybody Dreams in Color

A full 12% of sighted people dream exclusively in black and white. The remaining number dream in full color. Studies from 1915 through to the 1950s maintained that the majority of dreams were in black and white, but these results began to change in the 1960s. Today, only 4.4% of the dreams of under-25 year-olds are in black and white. Recent research has suggested that those changing results may be linked to the switch from black-and-white film and TV to color media.

Once the smoke alarm went off while I was asleep dreaming and in my dream I thought some kind of government police had caught us doing something and we were about the get nabbed. It was actually very cool.

I’ve also had that sleep paralysis while semi-conscious. Trying to move and not being able to for a few moments starts to get very scary…

    And dry orgasms… yesssssssss ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. LL COOL J

I snore all the time, and I also dream all the time. Pretty sure that one is wrong. *I know I snore because of family and friends* *I know I dream because I do*

What about the myth (or truth) that you cannot dream of your own death?

I know I’ve woken up a few times gasping for breath or feeling incredible physical phantom pain. The dry orgs, obviously, are much preferred…

  5. corpower

Speaking of dry orgasms (without spaces), why was the phrase ‘wet dream’ never used in this article?

Especially since, as a male, I incorporate my morning kickstand into all sorts of amazing moments.

How do I attach a surreal photo like the ones above of one of those moments?

I have actually a very weird dream to share(+18) :-)))

Years ago I had a dream about eating animals alive in a wood near the place where I used to live in England. It seemed very realistic. I ate fox, hares..etc. I was covered in those animals blood everywhere but didn’t really care. As I got stuffed I thought to have a little nap right there on the leaves by an old well…As it started rising I thought I run in my room so no one will see me dirty, bloody. Quickly I ran in my bed and finally my alarm went off and I straight through my blanket on the floor checking my pyjama! I honestly thought that all that horror really happened…

  7. Laura Lynch

One of the worst dreams I ever had was when my family and I moved into our house. When we first moved into our house, I was laying down with my daughter (who was 2) for a nap. While I was sleeping (however, I feel like I was awake), I heard footsteps enter my room. I was paralyzed with fear as the steps came closer to the bed. I couldn’t move or speak. Once the presence reached my bed, I heard “it” speak in a language I had never heard before and felt a breeze blow over my daughter and I. Then, suddenly it was gone and I was awake. It was a terrifying dream.

Many times the dreams we get occur repeatedly, particularly some scary ones!!! The main topic which is dreams continue is about the fact that while we are disturbed from sleep when in middle of a dream and go back to sleep again, the same dream continues from where it has stopped…it happened with me many a times…how about any of you??? ๐Ÿ™‚

It is wrong. You actually only snore during non-REM sleep, which was previously thought of as non-dreaming sleep. However, scientists now believe that we do dream in non-REM sleep, just less and about more mundane things.

  16. Facts

Every human being dreams (except in cases of extreme psychological disorder) but men and women have different dreams and different physical reactions. Men tend to dream more about other men, while women tend to dream equally about men and women. In addition, both men and women experience sexually related physical reactions to their dreams regardless of whether the dream is sexual in nature; males experience erections and females experience increased vaginal blood flow.

Believe it or not, your body is virtually paralyzed during your sleep โ€“ most likely to prevent your body from acting out aspects of your dreams. According to the Wikipedia article on dreaming, โ€œGlands begin to secrete a hormone that helps induce sleep and neurons send signals to the spinal cord which cause the body to relax and later become essentially paralyzed.โ€
